Frequently Asked Questions

About Our Products

What does "information without distraction" mean?

Information without distraction means getting what you need to know: the time, your subscriber count, today's date - without opening an app, seeing notifications, or getting pulled into algorithmic rabbit holes. Our devices show information clearly and do nothing else.

Why would I buy a vintage clock when my phone shows the time?

Every time you check your phone for the time, you risk seeing notifications, emails, or apps that pull you in. Studies show people check their phones 50-100+ times per day, with some checking over 200 times.* A clock on your wall does one thing: tells time. No apps, no distractions, no lost time.

What's a single-purpose device?

A single-purpose device does exactly one thing exceptionally well. A 1960s factory clock tells time. Our YouTube counter shows your subscribers. Neither suggests you watch a video, subscribe to a podcast, or scroll a feed. They respect your attention by not competing for it.

How do your modern displays avoid the "rabbit hole"?

Our displays connect to WiFi and show information directly—your YouTube subscribers, the date, a quote—without requiring you to open any apps. You get the data you want without entering platforms designed to keep you scrolling. Check your metrics, get back to work.

What's the connection between vintage clocks and modern displays?

Both solve the same problem across different eras. Vintage clocks provided information before everything moved to screens. Modern displays bring information back out of apps and into physical space. Both exist as dedicated objects that don't demand your attention.

Are your vintage clocks actually from the 1940s-1970s?

Yes. We source authentic Swiss and German electric clocks from manufacturers like Inducta, Moser-Baer, FAVAG, and others. Each clock is restored, tested, and guaranteed to keep accurate time. These aren't reproductions—they're pieces that have been telling time for decades.

Why are your products open source?

One of our three rules is "Solve and Share." We believe good design should be documented and accessible. You can find our code, schematics, and build instructions on GitHub. If you want to build your own version, we encourage it.

Do you really have 25,000+ YouTube subscribers?

Yup. We document our builds, restorations, and inventions on YouTube. We use our own displays to track our channel without getting sucked into the homepage feed. We try to practice what we preach.

Can I request a custom display?

We focus on single-purpose designs that solve real problems. If you have a specific metric or information source you want to see without opening an app, contact us. We've built custom solutions for customers tracking GitHub stars, Twitch followers, and more.

Technical Support

Do I need technical skills to set up your displays?

No. Our displays connect to WiFi using a simple setup screen. Enter your network password, add your YouTube channel (or other data source), and you're done. Setup takes less than 5 minutes. Full instructions included.

How often do your displays update?

Our displays update every 40 seconds for LED displays and 60 minutes for ePaper. This is intentional - frequent enough to stay current, slow enough to avoid becoming another source of constant stimulation. Information you can check when you want it, not information that interrupts you.

Why ePaper displays?

ePaper mimics printed text, uses minimal power, and doesn't emit blue light. It's easier on your eyes and feels more like reading a physical object than staring at a screen. The slow refresh rate is a feature, not a bug—information that updates calmly rather than constantly demanding attention.

Do your displays work with my platform?

Currently we support YouTube and Twitch. Check individual product pages for compatibility. If you need support for a different platform, let us know—we add new integrations based on customer requests.

What if my WiFi connection fails?

Most displays will show the last known data and indicate connection status. Follow the troubleshooting guide included with your device, or contact us for support.

How do I maintain a vintage clock?

Vintage electric clocks require minimal maintenance. Keep them dust-free and avoid extreme humidity. If your clock stops keeping accurate time, contact us—we can advise on adjustments or service.
